In southern Touraine, since the 13th century Saint Martin’s church has graced the heart of a village called Nouans-les-Fontaines. The edifice contains a genuine treasure, the Pietà de Nouans of Jean Fouquet, one of the most outstanding French Renaissance painters. The 15th-century painting on wood is may be seen on the high altar of the church. Unique in Europe, this masterpiece is a representation of a scene from the Passion.
Since 2008, 50 meters from the church the Jean Fouquet house provides extensive information on the artist and his work.
